Ghost of Yōtei on PC has taken a weird, wobbly first step, but not the way Sony would like, because an early demo shared online shows the PS5 exclusive running on a PC through SharpEmu, an experimental PS5 emulator written in C#, with the main character actually loading into a 3D area and moving around.
Before anyone gets too excited, it runs at roughly 1-2 frames per second, the graphics are badly broken, and the footage was sped up to make it watchable, so this is more science experiment than secret PC port. Let me explain.
How Did Ghost of Yōtei End Up Running on PC?
According to GameGPU, the demo comes from an enthusiast going by foufouadi, and it shows the start menu, a 3D environment loading in, and the hero actually moving, which is a big jump from where things were back in July.
Some early posts on Reddit credited the wrong emulator, ShadPS4, but the developer has said it was SharpEmu, and the SharpEmu GitHub page describes the project as an experimental PS5 emulator for Windows, Linux and macOS that’s still in the early stages of development.
Fun FactBack in July, SharpEmu could only get Ghost of Yōtei to its splash screen before crashing, as Notebookcheck reported at the time, so going from a logo to a character walking around in about three months is quick progress for PS5 emulation.
So Is Ghost of Yōtei Actually Playable on PC Now?
No, and I can’t stress this enough, it’s very much not playable, because 1-2 frames per second isn’t a game, it’s a slideshow, and the developer’s priority is fixing the graphics and getting models to render properly before even thinking about speed.
The project’s own notes are pretty honest about how early this all is:
- Ghost of Tsushima: boots and runs at around 60fps, but the actual scene doesn’t render properly yet
- Ghost of Yōtei: the intro cinematic plays, but only with special diagnostic launch settings
- Demon’s Souls: gets about five times further after a fix that hasn’t been merged into the main build yet
- Requirements: a 64-bit PC and a Vulkan-capable GPU, with macOS support via MoltenVK
So the realistic summary is that PS5 emulation is moving surprisingly fast, but we’re still a long way from anyone “legally” dumping their PS5 games and playing them on a gaming laptop, some people, definitely not me, will be very disappointed!
What Does This Mean for an Official PC Port?
Ghost of Yōtei came out on PS5 on 2 October 2025, and Sony has been releasing its big exclusives on PC for years now, but no PC version of Yōtei has been announced, and instead Sony just put out a Complete Edition on PS5 on 1 October 2026.
That’s the funny part of all this, the fan scene is literally trying to brute-force a PC version into existence while Sony stays quiet, and if an official port does turn up, it’ll obviously run a lot better than one frame a second, won’t it?
Quick NoteSharpEmu’s GitHub page says the project doesn’t condone piracy, asks users to use legally obtained copies, and says it doesn’t include any Sony firmware or game data.
Should You Care About This Ghost of Yōtei PC Demo?
If you’re into emulation, absolutely, because this is a great sign that PS5 emulation is moving from “it boots a menu” to “it loads actual game worlds” faster than many people expected, and that’s exciting for game preservation in the long run.
If you were hoping to skip buying a PS5 and play Ghost of Yōtei on your PC this year, though, I’d forget about it and either grab the PS5 version or wait to see whether Sony announces a proper PC port. We said it about the last big PS5 emulation milestone in our piece on PS5 emulation booting Sony’s menu, and it still stands, please don’t sell your console just yet!
