Pokémon HOME Update 4.1.0 Is Live, Finally Adding FireRed and LeafGreen Support on Switch

It’s taken months, but Pokémon HOME has finally been updated to version 4.1.0, which means you can now move your Pokémon from the Nintendo Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen into HOME.

There are a few other nice extras in there too, including a free Celebi and a big storage boost for Premium subscribers. Classic, pay more get more, except we are getting more storage for digital pets.

The update went live today after a planned maintenance window, as confirmed by Nintendo Life and My Nintendo News, and The Pokémon Company had already set out the main features back in the summer, so we know exactly what’s included.

What’s new in version 4.1.0

The big one is FireRed and LeafGreen connectivity, which is tied to the Switch ports of the classic Game Boy Advance games that launched on 27th February 2026, and which a lot of players have been waiting on since day one.

You can move whole boxes at once rather than picking Pokémon one by one, which is a lovely quality-of-life touch, but there’s one important catch you need to know about, because transfers only go one way.

Once a Pokémon leaves FireRed or LeafGreen and goes into HOME, it can never go back, and you also can’t move Pokémon from HOME into FireRed or LeafGreen, so if you’ve got a favourite team you still want to use in the GBA games, maybe think twice before you send them off.

A free Celebi for Pokédex completionists

If you’ve completed the Pokédex in either FireRed or LeafGreen, you’ll be able to claim a special Celebi in the mobile version of Pokémon HOME after connecting your game.

Even better, you don’t actually need to transfer your Pokémon to get it, because anything registered in your FireRed or LeafGreen Pokédex is registered in HOME automatically, so you can keep your team where it is and still get your reward.

More storage and a Pokémon GO fix

Premium Plan subscribers are also getting a big storage upgrade, with the maximum going up from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon, and the subscription price isn’t changing, which is a nice surprise in a year where everything else seems to be getting more expensive.

On the Pokémon GO side, Pokémon caught in Safari Balls can now be sent to HOME using the GO Transporter, although they’ll show up as being in a Strange Ball once they arrive.

Don’t forget to update

You’ll need to update both the Switch and mobile versions of Pokémon HOME to version 4.1.0 before you can use the service again, so make sure you grab the update before you try to move anything across.

It’s also worth remembering that Pokémon Bank, the old 3DS storage service, is shutting down in February 2027, so if you’ve still got Pokémon stuck in there from the 3DS days, now is a very good time to move them up to HOME before it’s too late.

What Difference Does it Make?

I’ll admit I’ve been grumbling about this one for a while, because when we covered the Switch release of Pokémon FireRed earlier this year, the lack of HOME support was one of the biggest things holding it back, and it felt odd to sell a re-release without letting people bring their Pokémon forward.

Now that it’s here, it does make the Switch versions feel a lot more worthwhile, especially for anyone chasing a complete Living Dex, and the free Celebi is a genuinely nice nod to the players who put the hours in.

That one-way transfer rule is going to catch some people out though, so please double-check what you’re moving before you hit confirm, because there’s no undo button here.
